The Interscholastic Eventing League was established in 2020 as an official program of the United States Eventing Association. The mission of the IEL is to bring together junior riders with a common interest and provide a supportive community through which students can continue to pursue their riding interests. IEL team events are hosted across the country throughout the year and are run in conjunction with regular horse trials. Teams competing in IEL Team Challenges are able to self-identify to the competition organizer and will compete in the regular horse trial competition as individuals. Combining their individual scores, their team scores will be tabulated and matched against other teams.
The interscholastic team should register with the USEA as an interscholastic team affiliate. The interscholastic team can be any group of junior riders who share a common bond- the same barns, the same school, same Pony Club, same area, etc. Junior riders may only affiliate themselves with one interscholastic team per year. There is no limit on the size of an interscholastic team.
All USEA Area IV Young Rider members are included on the Area IV YR IEL Team Affiliate Roster. The AREA IV YR team was established to serve as a default membership to the IEL- to catch those riders who have been unable to form teams within their school, local area barn-mates, etc. Young Riders are encouraged to form their own teams and when those new teams are submitted, they will automatically be removed from the Area IV YR IEL roster. Area IV YR members who form their barn/Pony Club/instructor/area IEL Team Affiliates will not be penalized and there is no benefit to rostering with Area IV YR IEL over any other Team Affiliate.
